“What is the best time of day to take CBD?” is a question we get often, even from long-time CBD users. Whether you’re trying CBD for the first time or you’re curious about experimenting with different times of day, the next logical question is…
Are there actually different benefits if you take CBD in the morning versus at night?
Before answering that question, it’s important to understand how CBD works in the body.
Cannabidiol, AKA CBD, is a cannabinoid, and like other cannabinoids, it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system. This little-known system is an essential regulator of many bodily functions like memory formation, appetite, coordination of movement and possibly emotions.
Our bodies use the endocannabinoid system to help maintain homeostasis, which can be thought of as optimal functioning. It’s the ideal equilibrium state.
So, the way that CBD interacts with the body on a biological level is the same no matter what time you take it. But, users can have a different experience with CBD based on what they’re experiencing in their daily life at that time.
For example, our customers might take CBD in the morning…
- For a sense of clarity and calm to start the day
- To boost creativity or focus
- To balance the morning coffee jitters
- Before or after a morning workout, tennis match or hike
- Before morning meditation or yoga
- Before a challenging day of being a stay-at-home employee and parent
- Before a big presentation, public speaking event or a deadline-filled day at work
And, our customers might take CBD in the evening…
- After that one notorious coworker or client sends an end-of-day request… and it’s already after 5 p.m.
- After an evening workout or long day of hiking
- To wind down after an overwhelming day
- To calm a motor mind before bed
- When their partner’s snoring can’t be drowned out with a pillow
For the nighttime users, it’s not that CBD necessarily triggers a restful state. Or, for the morning users, it’s not that CBD is just the perfect sidekick to their morning cup of coffee (although we’re big fans). But, achieving the desired effect of CBD is more about how CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system and that system helps regulate and balance the body.
Getting to that state of homeostasis, of optimal functioning, is beneficial no matter the time of day. But, when you take CBD in the morning versus the night time, the bodily systems that are out of balance might be different based on what you’re experiencing. So, your experience with CBD may also be different.
One of the best benefits of a broad spectrum hemp oil CBD supplement is that it doesn’t contain THC. Which means there are more options to take CBD at different times of day and explore the benefits without getting “high.”
Thinking about trying CBD for the first time or testing out CBD at a different time of day? Here are some guidelines.
First, it’s important to have a goal in mind when taking CBD. What are the benefits you’re looking for? And, if you’re changing the time of day, are you looking for different benefits? Keep these goals in mind as you begin taking CBD or change your dosing time. That way you can gauge effectiveness and determine dosage.
Everyone reacts differently to supplements of any kind, and with CBD, it does take some experimentation to find the right dosage. The “right” dosage for you might vary based on the time of day that you’re taking it.
A general rule of thumb when taking hemp products is to start at a lower amount and take the same amount consistently at the same time of day for one week. Then, consider increasing the dosage based on your experience.
Even if you’re a long-time CBD user, if you’re considering changing the time of day or the type of CBD product you’re taking, we recommend going back to this basic rule of thumb and taking a lower amount. Many people start by taking a single Wana Wellness gummie or one serving of a Wana Wellness tincture per day.
While we’re advocates of experimenting with CBD at different times of day, consistency is also key. Taking CBD daily – in the morning or evening – is a great way to get the fullest benefits. (And, daily use is pretty easy – and delicious – with Wana Wellness.)
So, are you a morning CBD person or evening? And do you think you’ll experiment with different times of the day?
